Project Vision
Every year, birdhouses are thrown away and end up in landfills due to being left outside and deteriorating in the harsh winter months. I wanted to create a solution that would allow users to be able to use their birdhouse year after year. To achieve this goal I designed a fully slot-jointed birdhouse with no hardware so that it could be taken apart and stored super easily. When disassembled, the birdhouse is able to be stored completely flat so it does not take up much space. I also wanted to make it where each individual piece could be purchased individually so if a part were to break or if the user wanted to change the look of their birdhouse, they had the ability to without purchasing a brand new birdhouse.
About the House Finch
I chose to build a home for the house finch based off of there compact size as well as them being very commonly found in my home state of West Virginia. They are not a super demanding bird which makes their housing needs rather simple to cater to.
